- Motion text
This Congress notes that:
1. Dr Faiza Shaheen, a UCU member at LSE, was re-selected as the candidate for Chingford and Woodford Green by a clear majority of Labour members
2. the constituency was one of seven with a swing towards Labour in 2019, following a campaign involving hundreds of activists inside and outside of the Labour Party
3. the Labour Party NEC suspended Faiza on Wednesday following a meeting to which Faiza was given just a few hours' notice.
This Congress believes that:
a. the Labour NEC has hidden behind the disciplinary process to exclude left wing candidates who have popular support
b. the Labour Party disciplinary process has developed an appalling record in the way it has treated minorities.
This Congress resolves to:
i. offer its support and solidarity to Faiza
ii. ask the General Secretary to work with the affiliated trade unions to demand Faiza's immediate reinstatement
