Congress sends its support and solidarity to British Council Italy Workers, whose jobs are threatened by the decision to close the British Council's teaching operations in Italy.
Congress urges the British Government to intervene to protect the jobs of teachers and safeguard bilateral commitments to cultural cooperation with the Republic of Italy.
The UCU undertakes to liaise with the Italian General Confederation of Labour (CGIL) and assist them in practical efforts to save jobs at British Council Italy.
The UCU will use its influence with MPs and within the TUC to support the CGIL members in their fight to save their jobs.
