UCU: Emergency in Lebanon

Motion

Motion text: Congress notes:
1. Israel's 27/5/26 forced evacuation orders for over 200,000 residents of Tyre and across Southern Lebanon, immediately followed by airstrikes
2. this included attacks on Palestinian refugee camps, compounding the historic dispossession of Palestinians
3. Israeli officials have threatened ground invasion, openly discussing expanding settlements in Lebanon.
Congress resolves:
a. to condemn Israel's forced displacement of Lebanese people and Palestinian refugees as ethnic cleansing and collective punishment
b. to condemn the destruction of educational institutions and scholasticide in Lebanon and Palestine
c. to donate £5k to UNRWA and Lebanese Red Cross
d. GS to write to Ministers demanding urgent meeting on:
i. UK sanctions on Israel for violating ICJ rulings on genocide
ii. immediate cessation of forced displacement
iii. protection of Palestinian right of return under international law
iv. end to Israeli attacks and occupation of Lebanon
e. to reiterate unwavering solidarity with people of Lebanon, Palestine and Iran.
