Conference notes that:
1. We are in a second year of teacher assessed grades for GCSE, A level and
vocational qualifications.
2. Many, including in UCU, welcome a move away from high-stakes external
exams.
3. Teachers in FE have seen an increase in teaching hours together with reduced
contact time per group, leading to a situation where (for example) a full time
GCSE maths or English tutor can be teaching 200 students per academic year.
4. Additional marking and standardisation would be the final straw for many
whose workloads are already at unsustainable levels.
We call on UCU to make it policy that no permanent change which increases the
teacher assessed component of qualifications should be introduced unless
teachers have a reduction in teaching hours.
