Congress notes:
Abortion rights represent an advance for women and are necessary to achieve a society that values women's lives and rights.
Before the 1967 Act legalised abortion thousands of women died due to backstreet abortions.
Trade unions have a proud record of defending a women's right to choose.
Amendments are expected to the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Bill that seek to restrict abortion rights.
The 1967 Act can be improved to remove unnecessary delays and barriers for women needing to access abortion services.
Congress resolves:
To re-confirm its affiliation to Abortion Rights campaign and circulate information and briefing packs.
To oppose any restrictions on access to abortion services.
To support any action called by the Abortion Rights campaign, including a national lobby of parliament, to defend a women's right to choose and to urge the TUC to do the same.
