- Motion text
Congress recognises that to redress the historic and ongoing inequalities experienced by women 'education' plays a vital role. Congress believes that UCU, because of the broad span of members' work can make links across all sectors of education and so should be at the forefront of active campaigning for positive change.
Issues for women in education and the agenda for change is complex. Congress therefore calls on the NEC to draw on research and consider how current government and institutional policies and practices affect women's experiences in relations to:
Access and participation in education (e. g. the gendered curriculum, fees and affordability, childcare, life-long learning opportunities)
Access and participation in work (e. g. occupational segregation, pay and promotion).
Congress believes this should be a priority for UCU in the coming year and a cross-sectoral conference should launch the campaign and draw up our agenda for future work.
