- Motion text
Congress recognises the need to support trade union capacity around the world, and in particular those countries where academic freedom and freedom to study are either under threat or difficult to secure. Congress wishes in particular to support the development of post school education trade unionism in the countries of Sub-Saharan Africa, such as Zimbabwe, where the combined pressures of political and economic unrest and academic migration can reduce the opportunities for students and staff alike. Congress urges the NEC to support and to seek greater involvement of Education International in this area of work by encouraging local initiatives aimed at education trade union development, and to apply for funding via the TUC's International Development Learning Fund (IDLF).
