Annual Congress notes:
1. The estimated UK cost of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan is over £3 billion in the last year. This is money that could fund education;
2. That in excess, of an estimated 1 million Iraqis, 3,000 US and 130 UK troops have died since 2003, as well as millions injured or driven into exile;
3. That the continued unpopularity of pro-war government policies, and the partial withdrawal of British troops from Iraq, attests to the strength of the anti-war movement;
4. That such a movement remains essential because the US is preparing to launch war against Iran;
5. That UCU continues to play an important role in the anti-war movement.
Congress resolves:
1. To reaffiliate to the Stop the War Coalition;
2. To encourage branches and local associations to organise teach-ins on the war on terror” in co-operation with students and other campus unions.
