- Motion text
Congress notes with concern the growing involvement of Colleges and Universities in sponsorship of and/or partnership in Academies and Trust Schools. Congress welcomes UCU Education Committee's initiative to examine the implications of this involvement at both national and a local level.
Congress opposes the Government's policy of promoting and establishing Academies and Trust Schools and condemns the divisive nature of these institutions, in particular their:
Covert selection procedures
Undemocratic and unaccountable governance
Ability to vary national curriculum, pay and conditions
Congress reaffirms its commitment to publicly funded, democratically accountable State education and urges the NEC to campaign against Academies and Trust Schools and to encourage and support branches and LAs to oppose the involvement of their respective Universities and Colleges with such institutions.
