Motion text

FE sector conference supports FEC's strategy of linking broader political and educational issues in the further education sector to the issues of funding and pay in order to mobilise member support for the union's campaign including industrial action. Sector conference also supports the FEC's strategy of linking up with other public sector workers such as teachers in their fight for the 08/09 public sector pay round.
Sector conference condemns the Association of Colleges for failing to formally meet with the FE unions before May in response to a claim submitted to them in January 2008.
Sector conference urges FEC to continue to work together with other FE trade unions toward joint action in support of achieving an acceptable offer for 08/09 which addresses the gap in average earnings with school teachers and the shortfall from 07/08 pay offer.
Furthermore, Conference congratulates members for taking strike action on Thursday 24th April and for the support and help given by all those involved on making the day a success.
In order to pursue this campaign effectively, UCU needs to ensure the maximum involvement of our members and workplace representatives in the direction of the campaign, including any decision about further industrial action. The union must ensure that there is support for any next steps.
