Motion text

Sector Conference congratulates the FEC on the launch of the 'Our Colleges, Our Community, Our Union' campaign and on its efforts to build links with other trade unions across the public sector in order to build maximum strength in opposition to the government's attack on our pay and that of other public sector workers. In particular, we welcome the fact that UCU and NUT have coordinated ballots for industrial action over pay.
However, we recognize that the campaign is not solely about pay but also on the importance of education. It involves not only those of us who teach and lecture in the sector, but also those who depend on the sector for education at a time when this education is increasingly under threat from marketisation and the short term needs of big business.
With rising inflation and funding cuts, FE lecturers, along with other public sector employees, face a decline in real earnings at a time when workload and stress levels are rising.
Sector Conference calls on FEC to:
Continue to work for the maximum possible coordination of campaigning activity and industrial action across the public sector
Continue the campaign of industrial action for as long as is necessary to achieve a meaningful pay award
Campaign for compliance of wages and conditions by all AOC subscribers
Call upon the government to take action, including passing legislation, to ensure full implementation of national agreements on pay and conditions.
