- Motion text
Members in prison education face another round of retendering as the current contracts are due for renewal in 2009 and once again face uncertainty and the likelihood of a change of employer.
Conference is concerned that this round of retendering may not be carried out under TUPE and calls on UCU to continue to press for the following:
– TUPE should apply
– Funding to be at a level that covers staffing costs including protection of pensions on equivalent terms to the TPS
– Put an end to the practice of employing mostly part time and sessional staff on inferior contracts and conditions of employment
– the integration and inclusion of members working in prison education into the mainstream College branches of which they are employed. The union should monitor integration ensuring appropriate resources (regionally and nationally) are available to both staff and lay representatives for this purpose
– an 'environmental allowance' as part of prison educators pay structure;'
