- Motion text
Conference notes with sadness the detrimental effects of 15 years of Incorporation on the provision of education and training within the FE sector, including Adult and Community, Land-based and Prison education, and in particular:
– the erosion of lecturers' pay and conditions, compared to other educational sectors
– the complete lack of democracy and accountability in the governance of colleges
– the continuing abuse of power exercised by many college Principals and senior management
– the marketisation and privatisation of educational provision
– the capitulation of college managements to private sector business principles and demands rather than community/individual learning needs
Conference demands:
– the return of the further education sector to democratic and accountable local authorities
– funding regimes to reflect the needs of individuals and communities as well as business
– nationally negotiated and binding terms and conditions for all FE staff.
