- Motion text
FE Sector Conference expresses concern over the increasing drive towards the establishment of unwieldy, large-scale 'Super Colleges'.
FE Sector Conference notes the existence of such colleges is a further example that the priorities of the government are rooted in the pursuit of profit for the few, rather than the educational needs of the many. Furthermore, that 'Super Colleges' are likely to present many problems for both lecturers and students, including:
– Probable redundancies
– A move away from community based Further Education
– A further reduction in courses deemed to be unprofitable
FE Sector Conference instructs the NEC to enter into a campaign which will lobby the government to actively discourage the establishment of super-colleges with no accountability to the local communities.
