Motion text

Conference notes
– that the government is persisting in its policy of charging fees to ESOL adults who are in work
– that employers are not providing ESOL classes through Train to Gain.
– the withdrawal of Additional Learning Support for ESOL speakers.
– the continued refusal to fund IELTS courses for potential university students
– the unrealistic achievement targets set by Job Centre Plus
– attempts to target funding to help vulnerable ESOL groups have been a failure
Conference resolves to:
– campaign for free ESOL classes to all those who need them
– work with other organizations locally and nationally to campaign against the continued drastic funding cuts and fee rises across Adult Education in general and ESOL in particular.
– campaign against diluted ESOL provision represented by programmes like Job Centre Plus and Train to Gain.
