Motion text

Conference is alarmed by the way in which College managements are interpreting the regulations for membership of the Institute for Learning. Concerns include:
The requirement to gain qualifications within a reduced timescale and without reduced teaching hours
The definitions of associate teaching role and full teaching role
The problems of pro rata CPD for part time lecturers
The potential problems attached to the inspection of CPD records
The danger of funding not being available for certain kinds of CPD chosen by lecturers
In addition, UCU needs to make it clear to all UCU members and potential members that IFL membership is not a substitute for union membership.
Conference notes the extensive support material from UCU about the new scheme but believes that only negotiated agreements at both local and national level will offer any guarantees to lecturing staff.
