- Motion text
FE Sector Conference welcomes the positive response thus far from those FE institutions exhibiting compliance with the Disability Equality Duty (DED).
However, mere legislative compliance is insufficient. Conference additionally notes that some institutions have failed to meet all requirements in relation to their Disability Equality Schemes (DES) particularly in relation to genuine participation of disabled staff.
Conference therefore urges:
1) All FE institutions, in their DES reviews, to establish rigorous, meaningful, fully supported mechanisms for the participation of disabled staff.
2) LSC (and other funding bodies) and Ofsted to explicitly check DED progress, and reduce grades/awards for non-compliant institutions.
3) UCU to preserve and augment the Equality Unit's pioneering development of Disability Equality.
