Conference notes that
Sector Conference, in November 2007, accepted single-table bargaining subject to safeguards on national negotiations;
the concern of members, expressed in the ballot, was about a negotiating timetable that precluded effective industrial action and the lack of a permanent forum for national negotiations on matters primarily affecting academic and academic-related staff.
Conference confirms its support for national negotiations in line with Sector Conference policy.
Conference resolves that:-
the 2009 pay claim will be a nation-wide claim;
branches and local associations will not negotiate or settle locally;
institutions that withdraw from national negotiations will be subject to the invocation of their dispute procedure;
amendment of the terms of the third year of the pay settlement will trigger disputes procedures;
the GS will lead a press campaign on the de facto 'no strike' clause in the revised JNCHES framework.
