Motion title
The 2009 pay claim
Meeting date

Motion text

Conference notes the
public sector pay freeze announced by the Government, and its effect in reducing real wage incomes by holding pay rises below RPI;
continuing series of record profit figures announced by the corporate sector, especially by the banking sector and the privatised utilities.
Conference resolves, in the light of the report of the pay review group, to
campaign with other unions in resisting the pay freeze, and seek generalised solidarity in pursuing pay settlements at least in line with RPI;
seek a joint pay claim with the other HE unions ensuring a minimum RPI rise for all but that will address problems of low pay by investigating the impact of flat-rate settlements, in whole or part;
pursue the issue of 'catch up', and of career earnings expectations, by making a key element of the pay claim the moving up of all pay grades by three incremental points.
