Conference notes the
public sector pay freeze, and its effect in reducing real wage incomes by holding pay rises below RPI;
continuing series of record profit figures announced by the corporate sector;
continued low pay in universities.
Conference resolves, in the light of the report of the pay review group, to
campaign with other unions to resist pay freezes, and negotiate settlements in excess of RPI;
set a claim with the other HE unions for an RPI-plus rise for all university staff but one that also addresses low pay by securing a minimum flat-rate element of £3k per head;
pursue 'catch up', and meeting career earnings expectations, by extending Ac3/grade 8 and Ac4/grade 9 by four incremental points;
secure a negotiated and universal Ac5 'professorial' grade.
