Sector Conference notes that as student numbers continue to rise without commensurate growth in staff, members in HE face ever-increasing workloads.
Conference further notes a management-driven trend towards the use of workload models as a tool to ensure that targets are met regardless of the need for an equitable distribution of work.
Conference therefore instructs HEC to produce guidelines on workload models for branches and LAs which define the maximum number of hours per week which can be covered by a workload model, ensure a proper allocation of holiday time, and ensure time for research and scholarship within the defined week. The guidelines should also address the issue of normalisation of hours, such as the 35 hour per week figure used by many universities.
