- Motion text
Since the government announced a 'service level agreement' last summer to stabilise the devastating MPET (Multiprofessional education and training) budget raiding, there still remains volatility and instability in course provision affecting nursing, midwifery, physiotherapy and allied health care professions. There have been further lecturer job losses across the country.
This situation could be compounded further by the Darzi review and the skill mix-driven workforce agenda, which would drive down commissioned numbers onto health care courses.
Conference supports the work done by the HEC and the Joint Liaison Committee to highlight the plight of health educators, and urges them to explore different funding sources and models which will provide financial stability to HEIs and appropriate remuneration to students for their labour in practice. Conference instructs the HEC to organise a vigorous campaign to ensure that the government ring-fences the MPET budget until such funding arrangements can be made.
