Conference notes:
The significant number of local disputes in HE that have had national implications for our union. Examples include: London Met's recognition dispute; Dundee's mass redundancy threat; Bournemouth's imposed inferior employment contracts; Keele's job loss and faculty closure attempts.
The national significance arising from the fact that these 'local' disputes are often initial skirmishes whose outcome will significantly affect the confidence of other university managements to attempt similar measures.
That it is in the interests of all union members that national threats are responded to in a timely, coordinated, and assertive manor, and that local UCU regions can play a significant role in helping to coordinate such a response across geographically related institutions.
Conference resolves:
That HE branches will be actively encouraged to play a full part in their local region by ensuring they elect local regional delegates and that they circulate regional material to all their members.
