Congress notes that the University of Wales Lampeter, while projecting a surplus for the draft budget for 2008/09, is proposing to increase this by way of three possible options to be considered by the University Council on 9 June:-
(1) Defer the October 2008/09 pay award
(2) Not to implement the National Pay Framework
(3) Seek a reduction in staffing costs including by compulsory redundancies. Congress requests that Lampeter local association
(1) Receives all required legal and industrial support in challenging the proposals from the University.
(2) Receives the full backing of the union in the event that members seek to challenge proposals through forms of industrial action if necessary.
Congress also requests that the General Secretary writes to the Vice Chancellor and to the President of the UWL Council to place on record that any threats to our members will be met by the full force of the National Union.
