This HESC notes
1. that New JNCHES (the negotiating forum agreed to by the employers and the other campus unions) has discussed work done by an Employers Pension Forum which started to review USS arrangements, and established a New JNCHES Pensions Forum to facilitate “two-way communications and consultation on matters of mutual concern in relation to all the HE pensions schemes”
2. the situation at Sussex University where management refuse to negotiate on changes to the local pension scheme disadvantaging the lowest paid members of staff
This HESC
3. congratulates and supports the members of Unite at Sussex taking action in opposition to intransigence on the part of the employers
4. rejects any linkage between pay claims and pension provision on the part of the employers, either locally or nationally, and will resist any such move vigorously.
